What the YouTube Partner Program requires right now

If you searched YouTube Partner Program requirements, you usually want three answers: the live thresholds, whether Shorts and long-form share one meter, and whether a faceless or AI-assisted channel can pass review. As of 2026-09-07, Google’s Help pages still list the current ads and YouTube Premium path as 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 qualified public long-form watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days (YouTube Help answer 72851). An expanded path at 500 subscribers unlocks earlier fan funding and Shopping in eligible countries, not full ads (answer 13429240).

Faceless and AI-assisted channels are not banned. YouTube judges originality and authenticity at the channel level under reused and inauthentic content rules (answer 1311392). Separately, YouTube announced on August 10, 2026 that from February 1, 2027, new applicants for ads and Premium face higher entry bars: 8,000 qualified watch hours or 20 million Shorts views, while fan-funding thresholds stay the same and existing partners are not removed by that entry change (YouTube Blog).

This page owns the gate: thresholds, qualified metrics, originality risk, review, and the 2027 change. Money math (CPM, RPM, niches) lives on how to monetize a faceless YouTube channel — do not treat this post as an earnings calculator.

Current thresholds (official, as of 2026-09-07)

For ads and YouTube Premium revenue sharing, Help currently requires 1,000 subscribers and one of these performance doors: 4,000 qualified watch hours on public long-form video in the last year, or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days (72851; feature table also on 72857).

The expanded / earlier-access path is different. In eligible countries you can apply with 500 subscribers, 3 public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified watch hours in the last 12 months or 3 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days. That path opens fan funding and Shopping, not the full ads and Premium stack (13429240).

Non-metric checklist items still matter before you hit Apply: YPP must be available in your country or region, you need no active Community Guidelines strikes, 2-Step Verification on, advanced features access, and an AdSense for YouTube account ready to link in Studio (72851). You also must follow the channel monetization policies — hitting the numbers alone never auto-approves you.

Shorts vs long-form — what actually counts

Qualified watch hours (long-form door) come from public long-form videos. Private, unlisted, and deleted videos do not count. Ad-campaign traffic does not count. YouTube Shorts do not count toward the long-form hour door. Livestreams that stay unlisted, get deleted, or never convert to VOD do not count (72851).

Qualified Shorts views (Shorts door) come from public Shorts that appear in the Shorts Feed. Private, unlisted, and deleted Shorts do not count. Ad campaigns do not count. Image Posts in the Shorts Feed do not count (72851).

The critical caveat creators miss: Shorts Feed watch hours do not bank toward the 4,000 long-form hours. YouTube runs two doors, not one blended meter. A channel can grow Shorts for discovery while still needing long-form hours for the watch-time door — or commit fully to the 10 million Shorts-view door instead.

If you also publish TikTok, Instagram Reels, or Facebook, treat those as distribution. Off-YouTube views never count toward YPP. Only YouTube-qualified metrics do. FaceLoom’s multi-platform publishing and Instant Shorts help you ship the same masters everywhere without confusing that rule.

February 1, 2027 — what changes for new creators

On August 10, 2026, YouTube published the first major YPP entry update since 2018. From February 1, 2027, new creators applying for ads and Premium need 8,000 qualified watch hours in the last 365 days or 20 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days. Fan funding and Shopping entry thresholds remain unchanged. Creators already in YPP are not removed by the higher entry bar (YouTube Blog).

Separately, from the same date, earning ads and subscription revenue on Shorts requires 10 million qualified Shorts views over the last 90 days. Channels below that Shorts earnings floor stay in YPP and keep long-form earnings; Shorts revenue sharing resumes when they climb back above 10 million views (YouTube Blog).

Help banners ask partners to review and accept updated terms in Studio by January 31, 2027 so full monetization continues after February 1 (72851). If you are still pre-YPP in late 2026, plan which door you can clear before the new-applicant bar rises — then build originality so review still passes.

Faceless and AI channels — originality, reused, and inauthentic

Showing your face is not a YPP requirement. The failure mode is mass-produced, low-variation, templated, or scraped patterns — not “no face” and not “used AI tools.” On July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed the old “repetitious” bucket to inauthentic content inside the channel monetization policies (1311392).

Reviewers look at the channel as a whole: main theme, most-viewed videos, newest uploads, where watch time concentrates, metadata, and About. Meeting thresholds still sends you into that review; it is not a stamp (72851).

Patterns that commonly fail the inauthentic / reused tests include near-identical low-value episodes, templated slideshows or scrolling text with little narrative, generic AI templates that look mass-produced without creator insight, and AI personas framed as human experts on sensitive topics such as health, legal, finance, or politics (1311392). Reused content also covers lightly edited copies of other YouTube or web sources without significant original commentary — even with permission.

Patterns that can still work: a consistent intro or outro with distinct episode substance, series with different storylines, AI used to visualize a narrative you invented, and AI for scripts or backgrounds when you deliver researched or creative commentary that is clearly yours (1311392).

GenAI disclosure is separate from originality. Disclose realistic AI that makes real people appear to do or say things they did not, alters real events or places, or generates realistic scenes that did not occur. Help states that disclosing AI does not itself limit audience reach or eligibility to earn money (14328491). Non-realistic styles, minor aesthetics, your own voice clone, or script assist often do not need that label — but consistent non-disclosure of required altered media can still lead to labels, removals, or YPP risk. Disclosure is not a free pass for inauthentic channel patterns.

After you hit the numbers — review, appeals, staying active

Apply from YouTube Studio → Earn. Review typically takes about one month, with delays possible under volume (72851). Meeting the numbers is not automatic admission.

If the first application fails, you can appeal within 21 days or re-apply after 30 days. Later rejections generally mean waiting 90 days before trying again (72851). Use that window to fix channel-level patterns reviewers flagged — not to spam more of the same template.

Stay active after acceptance. YouTube may turn monetization off on channels with no uploads or Posts for six months or more (72851). Cadence and packaging still matter once you are in; see how to grow a faceless YouTube channel and how to start a faceless YouTube channel for production rhythm, not for rehashing this gate.

Choosing your door — and shipping YPP-ready uploads

Many faceless and AI-assisted channels find the long-form 4,000-hour door more reachable than 10 million Shorts views before February 2027 — especially if Shorts are a discovery funnel rather than the entire catalog. Shorts still matter for reach; they just do not secretly fill the long-form hour meter. Dual publishers should track qualified YouTube hours and Shorts views as separate scoreboards.

FaceLoom is an AI video studio for YouTube long-form, YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Instagram Reels, and Facebook — faceless YouTube is a key use-case, not the only identity. The useful studio angle for YPP is shipping varied, non-templated episodes: distinct scripts, different beats, deliberate stock-versus-AI footage choices, and a cadence that does not look like spam. That supports a cleaner channel review story. It does not guarantee admission, watch hours, or Shorts views.

Use Instant Shorts and multi-platform publishing to export Shorts and social cuts from the same masters — then remember TikTok, Reels, and Facebook never count toward YPP. For Shorts-specific craft, see how to make YouTube Shorts without showing your face. Soft next step if you want production help: open the studio or check pricing for current credit plans (live from /api/plans — Launch starts at $14.99 / 1,200 credits). No free trial credits; do not plan around a free clip pool that does not exist.

Frequently asked questions

Can faceless or AI-assisted channels join YPP? Yes, if they meet thresholds and pass channel review. Faceless is allowed. Mass-produced templates, low-variation AI output, and AI “expert” personas on sensitive topics are the usual blockers under inauthentic / reused policies.

Do Shorts count toward the 4,000 watch hours? No. Shorts Feed watch hours do not count toward the long-form hour door. Shorts have a separate 10 million qualified views path (72851).

What changes on February 1, 2027? New ads/Premium applicants need 8,000 qualified watch hours or 20 million Shorts views. Fan funding thresholds stay the same. Existing partners are not removed by the entry change. Shorts earnings also need 10 million qualified Shorts views / 90 days (YouTube Blog).
